This week the African Transformation Movement held memorial services for the late, prominent pastor and gospel artist Dr Nkomfa Deon Mkabile, aged 48. Reverend Apostle Nkomfa was the preacher and founder of the Bethel International Ministries and an award winning gospel artist. Mkabile was loved by many and his sudden death came as a shock.
Bishop Manny Niekerk released a statement confirming Mkabile’s passing. Speaking on behalf of the family, Bishop Manny Niekerk says Mkabile was in hospital for the past week and died after a short illness.
Describing Mkabile, Bishop Niekerk says he was a jewel. “He brought light to any environment. If he was in the room everyone will know that he is the room. He was extremely friendly and an anointed man of God. He was not a normal gospel singer he was different, and he will be missed by many. He was a jewel that God gave us,” he says.
Messages of sympathy have started pouring in following the passing of award-winning gospel artist and Reverend Mkabile
Dr Nkomfa has been described as a passionate preacher, a committed husband, father and friend.
“He had been active in politics where he was known for principled leadership and representation until he took ill a few days ago.
“His presence, like his devout breaking out in magnificent song in a moment – at the right time, will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege and honour of knowing him,” the statement read.
The ATM memorial services were held at the Ethiopian Episcopal Church on 22 April, Shekaina Healing Ministries on 23 April, Nogoza Jebe Hall on 24 April, and Zwelethemba Community Hall on 24 April.
